The busiest hour at US airport security is 5 am: 7.6 percent of everyone TSA screens goes through between 5 am and 6 am local time, about 188,000 people on an average day, and 22 percent before 7 am. Thursday is the busiest day of the week and Tuesday the quietest, 25 percent apart. These are TSA's own counts of people screened at 431 airports over 147 days, 22 March to 19 September 2026; they count people, not minutes.

- TSA's own hourly passenger counts per checkpoint, published weekly in its FOIA reading room. This page uses 147 days of counts, 22 March to 19 September 2026, at 431 airports. Hours are TSA's, local to each airport. Public domain.
- Who reads them
- Arcane Digital, which runs waittimes.io, reads every feed every 10 minutes with its own collector and stores the time of each read. The day's reads are checked every night for a feed that has stopped or thinned, and one person reads that report the next morning. Nobody types a number in.
